The different tribes have different customs, but they have in common the harshness of their existence. The women do most of the daily work, hauling water with these painful wooden sticks they balance across their shoulders, and tilling the hard ground. Their tight calves are criss-crossed with scratches and scars, and their skin gets leathery at an early age. Often they walk for 3 hours on the steep trails to get to the morning market by the crack of dawn.
